The 1999 Ontario Women's Field Lacrosse Scholarship was awarded to a player who in only four short years has progressed from an inexperienced rookie, to a player who has shone at the International level.
Stephanie Allen was introduced to field lacrosse in grade 11 at The Woodlands School where she was captain of the Varsity team for three years. In her final year, she was also an assistant coach of the school’s JV team.
This past year, Steph also completed her NCCP Level I Coaching Certification.
A former competitive softball player, Stephanie made the transition to women’s field lacrosse very smoothly and quickly picked up the game. In her four years of playing, she has worn her school colours, participated in the U-20 League with the Guelph Aerial Regals, played on the Ontario Junior Team and most recently wore the red and white of Canada in representing our country at the World U-19 Field Lacrosse Championships held in Australia.
Stephanie is a true competitor and an excellent example of what hard work can achieve.
Her high school coach, Ted Sawicki, himself a former National Team member on the men’s field lacrosse team (and 1999 Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame Inductee) had this to say about his athlete.
“During the last four lacrosse seasons, my astonishment has grown regarding Stephanie’s adaptation to this newly introduced sport. Being a natural athlete in excellent physical condition, she excels at many aspects of the game. In a very short time, through dedication and love of sport, she has developed into a formidable lacrosse player.”
Stephanie is continuing her playing career and education on an athletic scholarship at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
With all she has accomplished in four short years, we look forward to what she will contribute to Women’s Lacrosse in the new Millennium!
