OWFL Scholarship Recipient - 1997

Jessica Lee
Donevan C.I., Oshawa

The 1997 Ontario Women's Field Lacrosse Scholarship was awarded to an individual who developed into a top level athlete during her high school years.
In her second year of high school, like many good athletes, not being bold enough to try a new sport, quietly asked to borrow a stick for the summer, with the hope of playing Jr. Varsity the following year. That summer she taught herself the stick work. She came back the following season, bypassing the JV team and going straight to the varsity team, where she went on to have a significant impact.
In her next three years, she became on of Donevan's top lacrosse players, eventually becoming their all-time leading goal scorer.
Jessica Lee's success is a result of her inner drive to be the best. She watches and learns so well from those better than her. She sets challenges for herself, then sets out to achieve them.
Provincially, she played for the Ontario Junior team in 1994 and 1995, winning the Canadian Junior Championship in both years. She also played on the winning Whitby team at the Ontario Summer Games in Ottawa in 1994. It was the skill and knowledge she learned from these teams that she brought back to the Donevan Blue Devils. In her final year at Donevan, the Blue Devils captured their first ever LOSSA title.
She has a tremendous appreciation for the game and what it has provided her over the past few years ... new friends, travel, top level lacrosse and ultimately a full athletic scholarship to Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.
Jessica enjoys giving back to the game. She takes great pride in being a role model for others. It is quite common to see her at the field in the summer, when she is not playing or umpiring, helping younger players with specific skills, or just discussing some of her experiences with them. She will no doubt have a positive impact on these young players as their careers develop.
As Jessica pursues her dream of getting a university education while playing lacrosse, she often talks of the day when she becomes a teacher and coach so she can provide opportunities for others.
Jessica Lee is a prime example of a student-athlete who has learned the value sport can have in one's life. She is a true representative of the ideals of the OWFL lacrosse scholarship award and is a truly deserving recipient.
