Katie Nizio
Dr. F. J. Donevan Collegiate -
Oshawa
Katie
Nizio is in her 4th season as a member of the Donevan Blue devils high school
lacrosse program. not only is Katie an accomplished soccer player, but she
is an all round athlete with natural athletic ability, who picks up most sports
quickly and proceeds to excel at them. Since there was no girls soccer
program at Donevan, it was a natural choice for Katie to try lacrosse. Her
coachability and good work ethic combined with her athletic ability made her the
best best in her very first year.
As the
best player over the past four seasons, Katie has developed as the teams'
leader. she has been the team captain for the past two seasons.
Other players respect her ability and knowledge of the game, and consequently
learn a great deal from her.
Katie
demonstrates leadership off the field as well. Along with three of her
classmates, she organized the 2004 Lacrosse Jamboree. Her work and
leadership in running this event was of high standard., In her role as a
school ambassador, and as a four sport athlete at the school, Katie is the
perfect person to promote Donevan's athletic program. her commitment to
the over athletic program, makes her an invaluable leader of athletics at
Donevan. she was named athlete of the year in grade 10, beating out all
senior student.
After
playing two years of Oshawa Blue Knights House League with some call ups
to play with the Rep team, including at the 2002 Ontario Summer Games, Katie
pursued her interest in playing at a higher level by trying out for and being
selected to the National Development Team that competed in North Carolina this
spring. Katie is also playing on the U-19 Blue Knights this season.
Katie is
a very sociable individual who takes great pride in excelling not only in
athletics, but also in her academics. She has been on the honour roll in
each of her high school years. her ability to mange her time effectively
in order to excel in both areas is a real credit to her work ethic and
determination to do so. Katie hopes to pursue an athletic scholarship at a
US university in either lacrosse or soccer.
It is
with great pride that Ontario Women's Lacrosse presents and congratulates Katie
Nizio on her 2004 OWLF Scholarship award for all her outstanding achievements.
