OWFL Scholarship Recipient - 2002

Lisa Howe

Holy Cross S.S., St. Catharines

The year 2002 marks the ninth year the OWFL Scholarship has been awarded. The Scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school student/athlete: planning to attend a post-secondary institution; who has taken part in a lacrosse program in the current season; who indicates a desire to continue in lacrosse; who demonstrates strong leadership, good character and a sense of citizenship and participation in school and community activities.
Ontario Women's Field Lacrosse congratulates Lisa Howe of St. Catharines as the newest addition to the distinguished list of OWFL Scholarship recipients. Lisa has been part of the St. Catharines Athletics organization for many years, starting her lacrosse career playing with the boys' field team. Although she was a little intimidated by the stick and body checking, she thoroughly enjoyed herself.
The switch to women's field was a natural progression for her and she caught on quickly. In 1999 was the team's Most Improved Player.
In 2001, she was voted as assistant captain, played on the League All-Star Team, and tied for the team's MVP. Lisa was a honours student throughout high school and plans to continue her education at the University of Western Ontario where she plans to pursue a career in either journalism or teaching.
In addition to excelling at school and within the game, she also works in the community in a variety of programs including Big Sisters and the Canskate program, where she is a coach.
This past summer, she was an assistant coach with the St. Catharines U-15 team.
